Supporter of Lagos Navigators' Look at their web site to see the range of services they can provide - yachts, power boats, bars and restaurants are all available! But from our point of view, they provide us with handy facilities for our weekly meetings, allow a 10% discount on bar bills - and best of all, they sponsor all our sailing events by providing the start boat and crew, organising prizes, donating trophies, and hosting our celebrations, too.

Sopromar Marine Services
|
Supporter of Lagos Navigators' Another very friendly and professional group, with some of the most up-to-date equipment available. It's all virtually spotless, too, - from the hoist, to the workshops, to the yard itself -- and that says a lot about their standards. They host an "Open Evening" to show us round behind the scenes, to meet their staff and see their skills being demonstrated. They are proud to say that they have nothing to hide from their customers.

Supporter of Lagos Navigators' Yes, it's our favourite marina in the Algarve - and it must be one of the most welcoming in the world. For example, for the third year running, they are providing a programme of "Nine Events for Nine Months" to help keep their winter visitors occupied and entertained. And a member of staff has just been delegated to liaise with the tax office and handle the payments of the local Boat Tax for us. What more could we ask?

Supporter of Lagos Navigators' FOFOVELAS Sail Makers in Lagos is owned by Antonio Viegas, a well known personality in the Algarve sailing scene. For relaxation, Antonio often joins in our fortnightly "Fun Races", but he only uses his cruising sails for these, "to give you boys a chance"! He, too, supports our efforts - making course flags and banners - as well as encouraging our performance with many hints and tips.

We found the site Algarve Information (just click the link to go to it) and felt it could be useful. It does have a lot of adverts, and some of the information is a bit out-of-date (especially Boat Tax!) – but there is a lot to learn from it about life in the Algarve. Please try it and give us YOUR views, via info@lagosnavigators.net

Ocean Cruising Club
|
Now in existence for just over 50 years, the OCC is a grouping of amateur yachtsmen (and yes, that includes yachtswomen, the Club Admiral is a lady!) committed to long distance sailing. Full membership requires completion of a 1000-mile off-shore passage, but others "aspiring to the aims of the club" can apply for associate membership. There is a world-wide net-work of Port Officers, who are available to help make your visit to their location more enjoyable. Also available is a splendid source of data, based on the actual experiences of voyaging members as recorded in the club journal, "Flying Fish", as well as access to a host of gatherings and musters in all corners of the world.

Cruising Club of America

Now in its 85th year, the CCA continues to use the collective wisdom and experience of its 1200+ members to influence the "adventurous use of the sea" through efforts to elevate good seamanship, the design of seaworthy yachts, safe yachting procedures and environmental awareness. They have a wonderful supply of information, produced by real, active sailors, who know what other sailors want! Especially recommended are the papers on communications, by Walt Paul, who was in Lagos in 2007.
